Thirty-nine dollars.
That’s the number people see on our website, and I get it — it raises eyebrows. Every week somebody calls me and asks some version of the same question before I’ve even said hello.
“Ryan, is that actually real? Like what’s the catch?”
There’s no catch. But I understand why people ask. Lawn care pricing in Sudbury is all over the place. Some guys charge $80 for a small lot. Some charge $25 and show up twice before disappearing. You’ve probably dealt with both.
I’m Ryan Lingenfelter — owner of Cutting Edge Lawn & Landscaping in Garson, Ontario. Since 2020, I’ve personally managed lawn care across Greater Sudbury — Garson, Val Caron, Hanmer, Lively, Chelmsford, Azilda, Capreol. We’ve cut somewhere north of 500 residential and commercial lawns at this point.
So I want to answer this question properly. Not with a sales pitch — with a straight breakdown of exactly what you get when you book a $39 cut with us, what’s not included, when the price changes, and why we charge what we do.
Let’s get into it.
What $39 Actually Covers
When we show up to cut your lawn at the $39 rate, here is every single thing that’s included. Nothing hidden, nothing assumed.

Full Mow of the Lawn Area
We cut the entire grass area on your property — front, back, and sides. We run the mower at the right height for the season and the grass type. In Sudbury, that means 3 inches minimum on cool-season grasses. We don’t scalp lawns. We don’t drop the deck to make it look “done faster.” The cut is done properly every time.
We overlap each pass to avoid missed strips. That’s basic but it’s something a lot of guys cut corners on when they’re trying to rush through ten properties in a day.
Perimeter Edging Along Hard Surfaces
Everywhere your lawn meets a hard surface — the driveway, the sidewalk, any concrete or interlock — we edge it. That clean line between the grass and the pavement is what separates a mow that looks done from one that looks finished.
This is included in the $39. It’s not an add-on. It’s part of a proper cut.
String Trimming Around Obstacles
The mower can’t get everywhere. Around fence posts, trees, flowerbeds, the base of the deck, garden borders — anywhere the mower leaves a fringe of uncut grass, we go in with a string trimmer and clean it up. This is what takes the most time on a detailed property and it’s what a lot of budget guys skip or do sloppily.
We trim tight. We don’t just wave the trimmer in the general direction of something and call it good.
Clipping Cleanup
After the mow, if clippings land on your driveway, walkway, or any hard surface, we blow them back onto the lawn or off the property. We don’t leave your driveway covered in grass clippings. We don’t blow them into the street and drive away. The property looks clean when we leave.
If the clippings on the lawn are heavy — from a long mow in wet conditions — we make a judgement call. Light to moderate clippings break down quickly and act as a free fertilizer. We leave those. A heavy matted layer that would smother the grass gets dispersed. We use our heads on that.
What’s Not Included at $39
I’d rather tell you upfront than have you surprised later. A $39 cut is a mow, edge, trim, and cleanup. Here’s what it’s not.

Bagging clippings: Standard cuts are mulch-cut. Clippings go back into the lawn. If you specifically need bagging and removal — maybe you have a thatch issue or you’ve gone a long time between cuts — that’s a conversation to have when you book, and it may affect the price depending on the volume.
Garden bed maintenance: We edge along bed borders as part of the trim, but pulling weeds from beds, deadheading, or any garden work isn’t part of a grass cutting visit. That’s a separate service.
Hedge trimming: We offer hedge trimming as its own service. It’s not bundled into a lawn cut.
Property cleanup: If the yard has branches down, debris, or accumulated leaves, that’s a property cleanup service. We’ll note it if we see something significant and we can usually schedule it together, but it’s priced separately.
Fertilizing, weed control, overseeding: We do core aeration. We don’t currently offer spray treatments or fertilizer programs. We’re honest about what we do and we don’t pretend to offer things we don’t.
When Does the Price Go Up From $39
This is the most honest part of this post, so pay attention.

The $39 starting price applies to a standard residential lot — a property that’s been maintained regularly, doesn’t have excessive obstacles, and isn’t so overgrown that it takes significantly more time than a normal visit.
Here’s when you’ll pay more, and why.
Lot Size
Bigger property means more time. The $39 rate works for a typical Sudbury residential lot. If your property is larger — a corner lot, a property with a large side yard, or a commercial lot — the price will be higher. We look at the property, price it fairly, and tell you upfront before we ever start. No surprises after the fact.
First Cut on an Overgrown Lawn
If a lawn hasn’t been cut in three or four weeks, it takes more time and harder work to get it looking right. We often charge a first-cut premium on overgrown properties. After that, if you’re on a regular schedule, the price drops back down. This is industry-standard — it takes more to bring a neglected lawn back than to maintain a well-kept one.
I’ll always tell you about this on the quote call. I’m not going to show up, do the work, and then hand you a surprise invoice for $80 when you were expecting $39.
Excessive Obstacles
A few garden beds, a couple trees, a swing set — normal. A backyard that’s a maze of raised beds, decorative stone paths, tight gate entries, and ornamental borders every few feet takes longer. If your property is unusually complex, I’ll factor that into the quote.
One-Time vs. Regular Service
Our pricing is built around regular maintenance — biweekly customers. If you want a one-time cut, I’ll still help you, but the rate may be higher because we can’t spread setup across multiple visits. Regular customers get the best value.
Why We Charge $39 and Not $25
I’ve seen the $25 guys. I’ve picked up their customers after they disappeared mid-season, left clippings all over driveways, or showed up with a dull blade that tore the grass instead of cutting it.
At $25, something has to give. Either the quality is cut (pun intended), or the guy is running without proper insurance, or he’s not making a living and he’s going to quit by July.
We’re licensed. We’re insured. We carry proper liability coverage so that if something goes wrong on your property, you’re not the one who eats the cost. That’s not free. It’s built into what we charge.
We also use proper commercial equipment — maintained, sharp blades, the right mower for the job. A sharp mower blade matters more than most people realize. A dull blade tears grass fibres rather than cutting them cleanly. Torn fibres turn brown at the tips, give the lawn a dull grey look a few days after the cut, and open the grass up to disease. We sharpen blades regularly.
We show up on schedule, every time. That sounds basic. You’d be surprised how rare it is.
What 500+ Cuts Across Sudbury Has Taught Me
Five years. Hundreds of properties. Garson, Val Caron, Hanmer, Lively, Chelmsford, Azilda, Capreol. Here’s what you learn when you’ve been doing this long enough.

The lawns that look best aren’t the ones that get the most product thrown at them. They’re the ones that get cut consistently, at the right height, on a regular schedule. That’s it. Consistent proper mowing beats occasional over-treatment every time.
Homeowners almost always appreciate communication more than anything else. If we’re going to be late, I text. If I notice something on the property — a sprinkler head that got clipped, a soft patch that might indicate a drainage issue, a section of lawn that’s showing stress — I tell the customer. People want to know what’s going on with their property.
Small details separate a good cut from a great one. The edge along the driveway. The trim around the base of the fence. The way clippings get handled after a wet mow. None of these things take a lot of time when you’re doing them right. All of them are obvious when someone didn’t bother.
Sudbury lawns have their own rhythms. Spring comes late and the grass takes off fast in May. July can get dry and you have to adjust mowing frequency. Fall comes early and the last cut of the season matters more than most people think. If you’re working with someone who doesn’t know Greater Sudbury’s seasons, they’re not giving you the right service for the right time of year.

The Bottom Line
$39 grass cutting in Sudbury is real. It covers a full mow, perimeter edging, string trimming around every obstacle, and cleanup of hard surfaces. No hidden fees on a standard maintained residential lot.
It goes up for bigger properties, first cuts on overgrown lawns, and unusual complexity. I’ll always tell you before the work starts.
If you’ve been burned by flaky lawn guys or confused by pricing that never made sense, give us a call. We’re not perfect but we show up, we do the job right, and we tell you the price before we ever start.
That’s what $39 gets you.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is $39 really the price for grass cutting in Sudbury?

What’s included in a standard grass cutting visit?
Full mow of the lawn area, perimeter edging along all hard surfaces, string trimming around obstacles and borders, and cleanup of clippings from driveways and walkways. This is a complete service, not a partial one.
